On Saturday 28th June, our community came together for more than just a party, we created a space where joy met generosity. Our Q Yanga Party was a vibrant day of music, games, and meaningful connection, where the dance floor doubled as a space for solidarity and our clothing drive, a space for reinvention.
Hosted at the TIERs Wellness Centre, the event was buzzing with energy as guests showed up ready to party, and some with bags of gently used clothes to donate. From denim jackets to glittery tops, shoes, jewelry, queer pins, you name it…our community showed up for each other, contributing to a drive that collected almost 100 items for queer folks in need, including trans and gender non-conforming people who often face barriers accessing affirming clothing.
Throughout the night, the DJ kept the crowd moving and our games master lit up the room with fun, ice breaker games while everyone got to enjoy the barbeque.
Q Yanga Party was our way to celebrate the amazing Pride Month we’ve had and a chance to spotlight the importance of community-led mutual aid, and the way small acts, like donating a shirt or bringing a friend can build a more inclusive and affirming world.
