We Have
Always
Been Here.
21 years of presence, care, and community — in the city that has always been ours too. Join us this June.
TIERs has been in this city for 21 years.
The Initiative for Equal Rights operates as Nigeria’s foremost organisation for the rights, health, and dignity of sexual and gender minorities. Since 2005, we have provided legal aid, healthcare, research, and community — in a country where our community’s existence is contested by law.
This June is not just Pride Month. It is our 21st year of asking — loudly, persistently, without apology — for the simple recognition that queer Nigerians have always been here.
“We have been asked, many times, to justify our existence. This June, we stop justifying and start demonstrating.”
— Afolabi Aiyela, Executive Director, TIERs

21 years of this community deserve more than one month.
TIERs operates year-round: legal aid, healthcare, research, and community programming. Pride Month is the visible part of work that never stops. If it matters to you, consider supporting it.
