Every year, Lesbian Visibility Week serves as a powerful reminder to See Us as We Are.

This year, we marked Lesbian Visibility Week by amplifying the lives and stories of women and the genderless in the queer community. Watch Here

It’s important more than ever to do so, especially considering the UK Supreme Court ruling which defined a woman as a biological female. This ruling invalidates the experience of trans women and non-binary people, including those who identify as lesbians.

Visibility for many lesbians is shaped by layered identities which impacts how they show up. This diverse community is made up of artists, engineers, activists, parents, healers, students, teachers, and more. Lesbians are masc, femme, neither or both, which is why representation matters. It reminds us that they belong, and it demands you see them as they are and not as a stereotype.

As we celebrate this community, we also uplift the underrepresented ones – trans lesbians, disabled lesbians, Muslim lesbians, and others – who are often pushed to the margins even within queer spaces, because true acceptance makes room for everyone.

TIERs, in its commitment to supporting, amplifying, and building the capacity of queer women within Nigeria, has created a transformative initiative aimed at equipping 25 queer womxn in Lagos with the tools to become powerful community advocates for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) within their community.

Through hands-on training, participants are gaining the skills to challenge stigma, advocate for bodily autonomy, and push for decriminalization of necessary live-saving sexual and reproductive healthcare for women and the genderless.

Lesbians are people with dreams, struggles, and hopes, just as anyone else. They deserve to love freely and live safely—and we firmly uphold their right to do so.
