TIERs Appoints Dr Bibi Bakare-Yusuf as Chairperson of the Board

The Initiative for Equal Rights (“TIERS”) today announced the appointment of Dr Bibi Bakare-Yusuf as chairperson of the organization. Bibi has, hitherto, served as a member of the board of TIERS since 2010 and has been instrumental to the growth of the organization along with other past and current board members.

Dr Bakare-Yusuf is co-founder and publishing director of Cassava Republic Press (www.cassavarepublic.biz), one of Africa’s most important publishing houses. She has wide experience as a gender and research consultant in the public, private and development sectors. Amongst others, she has worked or consulted for the BBC, UniFem, ActionAid, eShekels, Central Bank of Nigeria, and the European Union.

Before co-founding Cassava Republic Press, Bibi was an academic in the United Kingdom and Nigeria. She has a Ph.D. degree in Women and Gender Studies from the University of Warwick and her papers have been published in international academic journals. She also sits on the editorial board of a number of influential journals. Dr Bakare-Yusuf is also a Yale World Fellow, a Desmond Tutu Fellow and a Frankfurt Book Fair Fellow.
