The African Commission has adopted a resolution on Protection against Violence and other Human Rights Violations against Persons on the basis of their real or imputed Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity. The resolution was adopted at the just concluded 55th Ordinary session of the commission held in Luanda, Angola.

The adoption marks a significant achievement on SOGI rights in Africa and provides opportunity to call on African states to demonstrate their commitment for the universal rights to equality at all level.

Civil Society Organizations in Africa commend the effort of the commission toward the protection of human rights for all, especially sexual minorities.
